TikTok goes Rogue (One) ((*snicker*))

I recently became an avid TikTok user. It's great, comedy galore!
But there are these star wars trends going around, and if you want to be cool, you have to like star wars. It makes for some cringey stuff.
There are people who have never watched a single star wars quoting "Hello there." and they think they're so clever with their context-less jokes and renditions.
On the good side of tiktok there are true star wars fans coming up with some great stuff, but you have to get past all the 16 year old boys dressing up like fashion forward Han Solo, and the Adam driver fangirls who are only watching the new star wars movies for his face.
One of the best trends is remembering Lego Star Wars for Wii. Everyone is changing their profile photo to their favorite lego star wars character. Super fun because you can easily spot the star wars fans, but again, makes you wonder who actually cares and who's just trying to "be cool."
All things considered it's a great time to be a nerd. How the tables have TURNED since the co-op days.
I saw one TikTok of a guy playing Leia's theme on the trumpet standing on his suburban rooftop.
I saw a Kylo-Ren and a Rey cosplayer flossing while reciting an emotional scene from The Last Jedi.
I saw a guy walking around his apartment yelling "REY!!!" over and over again captioned "Fin in every star wars movie."
The force is very strong here.
TikTok itself raises some privacy concerns though, so I've been reluctant to hop on board and make some of my own (even though I of course have a million and one great ideas). I feel like this is China's way of sending a trojan horse to America's doorstep. It's a chineese company and they're reportedly recording biodata (face mapping), probably voices too, probably studying our culture, gathering our IP addresses, and apparently military members aren't even allowed to have the app downloaded because the security risks are too great.
But for now TikTok remains a highly creative, super fun app, the likes of which we haven't seen since Vine.

On a non-star wars related note, TikTok has also been keeping me up on the trends.
Apparently kids these days like to say things like, "That hit differently" when something makes you feel something different than something else. They say "_____ check" as a way to bring attention to and often hype up a noun. I also like to think that "check" means it's their intention to bring things "back in check" when it comes to ideas or motives surrounding the noun of choice. I might be overthinking it. They also like to call people the CEO of being ____ <-- whatever. They say "don't let this flop" when they're practically begging you to like their video because of all the work involved in creating it.

Current song trends include:

  • Into the Unknown from Frozen 2
  • some theme song from an old sit-com
  • that Camilla Cabello one (My Oh My)
  • 10,000 hours by Shane and someone else
  • Break my Stride by Matthew Wilder
This is all I have to say.
